Where to Buy

Where to Buy: Buy Online

How visitors can buy eyewear on Taobao and JD.com: a complete guide to platform comparison, hotel delivery, and returns. Prescription glasses are better measured and made in store; online is best for non-prescription sunglasses, fashion frames, and accessories.

🛒

Taobao

China's largest online shopping platform, with huge numbers of individual sellers and brand stores selling eyewear. Good for: fashion frames, sunglasses, accessories. Prices range from USD 2.98 (RMB 20) to over USD 298.00 (RMB 2,000).

📦

JD.com

China's second-largest e-commerce platform, known for fast delivery and genuine-product guarantees. JD.com self-operated items are purchased and shipped by JD.com itself, so authenticity is more reliable. Good for: brand-name glasses, sunglasses.

🛍️

Pinduoduo

China's budget e-commerce platform, where prices are usually lower than on Taobao and JD.com. Good for: low-cost small items like non-prescription sunglasses and frame accessories.

⚠️ Note: Pinduoduo is cheap, but quality can be an issue (no guarantee of lens prescription accuracy, rough frame workmanship), and there is a risk of counterfeits — buy with caution. We do not recommend buying prescription glasses on Pinduoduo.

How to Have Your Order Delivered to Your Hotel

You can have online orders delivered straight to the hotel you are staying at. Most hotels in China can accept parcels on behalf of guests.

01

Confirm the hotel accepts parcels

Call or message the hotel before ordering. You can ask: “Can the hotel accept parcels for guests? Is there a handling fee?” Most mid-range and upscale hotels accept parcels free of charge; some budget hotels may charge USD 0.75–1.49 (RMB 5–10) per item. It is best to confirm in advance.

02

Fill in the delivery address

Use this format:
Recipient: Your name (exactly as on your passport) + “Hotel Guest”
Phone: The hotel front-desk number (do not use a foreign number — couriers cannot make international calls)
Address: The hotel's full address + “Front Desk Collection”
Example: XX Hotel, No. XX Nanjing East Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai — Front Desk Collection, Attn: Zhang San (Hotel Guest)

03

Track your delivery

Both Taobao and JD.com offer real-time tracking. You will be notified when the parcel arrives. The front desk will keep it for you — just pick it up when you return to the hotel.

04

Collect at the front desk

Show your passport or room key card at the front desk to collect your parcel. Some hotels require a signature. Before leaving the desk, check that the outer packaging is intact.

How to Return Items via the Hotel Front Desk

Need to return something? Most hotels can help you ship the return parcel. Here is how.

01

Request a return in the app

On Taobao: go to “My Orders” → find the order → tap “Refund/Return” → choose “Return and Refund” → select a reason → submit. Once the seller approves, they will provide the return address. JD.com works similarly — request after-sales service in “My Orders”.

02

Ask the front desk for help

Say at the front desk (or show this text): “I'd like to return a Taobao/JD.com parcel — could you call a courier for me?” Most hotels will contact a courier for you (SF Express is a reliable choice) and help fill in the waybill.

03

Pack the item

Put the item back in its original packaging with all accessories. Include a note with the order number. Seal the parcel. The hotel will provide the waybill — just fill in the return address shown in the app.

Return Policy Notes

Most items on Taobao come with a “7-day no-questions-asked return” policy. However, custom-made lenses (including lenses made to a prescription) are not eligible for 7-day no-questions-asked returns — they can only be returned for quality issues or incorrect processing of the prescription. This is another important reason we recommend buying prescription glasses in store.

Online vs. offline: how to choose

How Foreigners Can Pay on Taobao/JD.com

Taobao and JD.com support several payment methods. Foreign visitors can pay in the following ways.

💳

International Credit Cards

Both Taobao and JD.com accept international credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard (via Alipay/WeChat channels). For overseas cards: single transactions of USD 29.80 (RMB 200) or less are fee-free; above USD 29.80 (RMB 200) a 3% fee applies to the total transaction amount. Some shops may not accept international cards — please confirm before ordering.

📱

Alipay

Alipay supports linking international credit cards (Visa/Mastercard), and foreign visitors can sign up for the international version of Alipay. Most Taobao and JD.com shops accept Alipay.

💬

WeChat Pay

WeChat Pay also supports linking international credit cards. JD.com accepts WeChat Pay, as do some Taobao shops. We recommend completing real-name verification and linking your card in advance while in China.

💵

Cash (Not Recommended)

Cash cannot be used directly for online shopping. Cash on delivery (COD) is now rare on Taobao and JD.com and is inconvenient for foreign visitors. Prepare an electronic payment method in advance.

Payment Tips

① Download and register Alipay/WeChat in advance (in China) and link an international credit card; ② some shops may not accept international credit cards — you can ask the hotel front desk or a friend to pay on your behalf; ③ keep payment receipts and order screenshots for returns and disputes; ④ watch exchange-rate fluctuations — the actual charged amount depends on your bank's settlement.
